Maserati’s lineup will soon be powered by Chrysler engines as it is now being helmed by Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne. A report from Car and Driver revealed that the Maserati range will expand to a total of five models by 2014, including two GrandTurismos, two sedans and an SUV. This sedan will be sportier compared to the Quattroporte that will take on the BMW 5-Series. Meanwhile, the SUV will be luxurious and will be powered by a Ferrari engine.

It’s believed that the new Maserati sedan will be positioned below the Quattroporte. It will feature a Chrysler Pentastar V6 engine but will have a new MultiAir variable valve setup and turbochargers to generate about 400hp. It was also reported that Maserati is working on a new rear-wheel drive platform that will extensively use lightweight aluminum and has the capacity to implement a hybrid system that Maserati will probably borrow from Ferrari.

It’s also expected that it will get the Ferrari FF’s complex all-wheel drive system, which will be considered an optional extra on the Maserati sedan and the Quattroporte replacement. Also from FF is the latest eight-speed automatic transmission. The first to arrive from this group is the new Quattroporte, which is expected to be presented in 2012.
